Before you begin: please read

This tool is intended as an assessment support and assurance aid only. It provides indicative recommendations based on the information and evidence supplied and should not be relied upon as a definitive determination of qualification requirements.

Assessment outcomes are dependent on the accuracy, completeness and quality of the information provided and may not reflect all relevant organisational factors, including reporting structures, delegated responsibilities, workforce deployment, or how roles operate in practice.

Organisations remain responsible for applying professional judgement, considering the wider organisational context, and making final decisions regarding qualification requirements and compliance with regulatory expectations. HQN cannot accept responsibility for decisions made solely on the basis of assessment outcomes generated by this tool.

This identifies roles that would not normally require a mandatory qualification assessment. If none of these describes the role, continue with the assessment.

Organisational context

This relates to how your organisation views the role, rather than its job title. Consider the role’s overall level of responsibility and organisational accountability.

Select the option that best reflects where the role sits within your organisation, rather than its job title.

Select the option that best describes the role overall, rather than individual responsibilities within the job description. A role may have responsibility for projects, contractors, budgets, technical work, compliance, risk or quality assurance without being a senior housing manager for the purposes of the mandatory qualification requirements.

Count the number of management layers between this role and the most senior housing executive within your organisation. Smaller organisations naturally have fewer layers.

Answer yes where landlord housing management responsibilities make up the majority (50% or more) of the role, or form a fundamental and significant part of it even if under 50%. If unsure, the job description and evidence will decide.

There are two ways to assess this role

Upload a job description
The tool reads it and assesses the role against the responsibilities it describes.
Assess the role manually
You can complete the role assessment by answering the questions below. This option can be used:
  • If you do not have a job description to upload
  • If you want to assess or reassess the role manually rather than rely on the assessment generated from the job description.

Job description (recommended), person specification, organisation chart, delegated authority, or other supporting evidence.

Supported formats: PDF and Microsoft Word (.docx). Older Word (.doc) files should be saved as .docx before uploading.
